Responsible Gaming

Last updated: 29 June 2026

Gambling should be entertainment, never a way to make money or escape problems. Only ever stake what you can comfortably afford to lose.

Stay in control

  • Set a budget and a time limit before you play, and stick to them.
  • Never chase losses — trying to win back what you have lost usually makes it worse.
  • Do not gamble with money meant for essentials, and never borrow to gamble.
  • Take regular breaks and don’t gamble when stressed, upset or under the influence.
  • Keep gambling as one small part of your life, not the centre of it.

Signs it may be a problem

  • Spending more time or money than you intended.
  • Gambling to escape stress, boredom or low mood.
  • Hiding your gambling, or lying about it, to people close to you.
  • Borrowing money or selling things to keep gambling.
  • Feeling anxious, guilty or irritable about your gambling.

Tools that can help

Licensed operators usually offer deposit limits, loss limits, time-outs, reality checks and self-exclusion. Use them. National self-exclusion schemes also exist — for example GAMSTOP in the UK and BetStop in Australia — which block you from licensed sites in one step. Independent blocking software (such as Gamban or GamBlock) can restrict access to gambling sites on your devices.
